Golfing Miracles

There are quite a few golf courses in the Yangon area. I believe there are varying levels of how the courses are managed and cared for.

The two games of golf of played at Thanlyin Golf Course have been a unique experience. It’s a game of miracles that have left me wondering . . .

·      How did my ball that flew ‘out of bounds’ manage to be inbounds by 5 metres?
·      When I’ve arrived at my ball, why is it teed up beautifully on a pinched tuft of grass?
·      My ball that went high up into a tree and no sight of it coming down, is now sitting in the middle of the fairway.
·      And my ball that took a swim is now sitting up on the bank

All these miracles are thanks to my caddy, or the group’s forward caddy. The forward caddy is a godsend when your ball travels into very ugly territory (for the boys, that is).

With all that help you could hardly use this course to get a genuine handicap.

The Greens
The Greens have a small ditch around them. I'm not sure if it's to keep the fairway weeds out or to keep the greens from getting water logged during the rainy season.
The caddies generally have barefeet, but my caddy wore jandals and took them off when he walked on the greens.
And then there are the carefully watered greens, by hand.

The Caddies
The caddies are excellent ball finders, great at selecting the right club, keep the clubs very clean, will give you the correct line on the green, know when you're in need of water, will ensure your ball has landed in a teed up position. What else could you ask for?

 The Rest Stop
There are a few opportunities to take a break. The ladies offer a variety of food, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, if you're hot they'll keep you cool with a fan.
