Bagan from Above

The ancient city of Bagan sits on the banks of the Ayeyarwady River with over 4,000 pagodas and temples dotting the landscape. The Buddhist temples, now in various states of neglect and restoration, were commissioned by the Kings of Bagan over a period of 230 years during the 10th -11th centuries. The area is one huge archaeological site where ancient ruins are still being discovered.

And what a better way to see it in all its glory, but from above. That calls for an early morning wake up to ride in a hot air balloon. This is such a peaceful way to view the plains with golden pagoda spires glistening in the sunrise. To quietly drift below treetop level watching the world below preparing for the day.

Up and away

The Landing followed by champagne and croissants

And then, Bagan at ground level.

To complete a day in Bagan many tourists, including ourselves, climb one of the only permissible pagodas to see the sunset.
