1 Jan 2016 in Yangon

New Years Day in Myanmar is no different than any other day. New Year in Myanmar is celebrated in April with the Water Festival.

The Yangon River which skirts around the west side of the city meets the Bago River coming from the east. Through the middle is the Pazundaung Creek. The combination of these waterways flow to the Andaman Sea as the Yangon River.

I'd read that in past times the Pazundaung Creek was a busy hub for trade and a port for fishing boats. British gunboats came up the creek in the Anglo-Burmese war 1824-26.

For my New Years morning walk I decided to explore the happenings along the banks of the Pazundaung Creek. The biggest find was the bustling Pazundaung Market. I don't think too many foreigners are seen here going by the looks I got. Buying some produce was somewhat of a novelty and gave me license to ask to take some photos.
